At first glance the design of this Qashqai Pelas seems to consist of three broad ivory bands alternating with two bands of terracotta. A closer look reveals a subtle division into slightly lighter and darker bands within both main tones, producing a subtler internal striped effect across the entire rug. Within these stripes are even finer gradations of tonality or ‘abrash’ that merge with the texture of the weave itself. Tribal art of this kind presents far than initially meets the eye.
