Among tribal Persian kilims of this type, this example is unusually disciplined in its design. Here the various vertical stripes and bands in shades of gray, ivory and cool green repeat in a fairly regular pattern according to color and width. But a closer look shows that within the larger bands of color there is a multiplicity of constant variation or ‘abrash,’ that still provides the spontaneity within the almost mathematical order of the design.
