Antique Persian Gabbeh’s are prized for their phenomenal color, thick, shaggy pile, and their bold, graphic sense of design. This stunning example is outstanding in every such regard. Its design consists only of squares of color – rich gold, three shades of blue, green, rose red, and ivory – with each color arranged in diagonal rows. The repetitive rhythms of the colors are only approximate, and full of surprise. The design is strikingly modern, almost reminiscent of Mondrian’s early abstract paintings. The pile is lush and lustrous. Fortunately, this lovely example has intact its original end-finish of braided fringe.
