Gabbeh’s are known for their incredibly thick, shaggy pile, and for the bold simple geometric designs suitable to pile of such length. This exceptionally lush Gabbeh has a design of horizontal stripes, mostly in blue, but punctuated at points by red, all against a soft golden ground. Larger, broader panels complete the design to either end, with a blue stripe running all around as a minimal border. Within such a restricted format, quality of color is paramount. Here it is the complementary effect of the soft blue and gold that gives the rug its special appeal.
