A series of brown and black horizontal bands repeats down the length of this Bidjar kilim, alternating with broader bands or swaths of tan. A closer examination reveals that the tan areas consist of multiple stripes in milder contrast, as do some of the brown bands as well. With subtly designed tribal works of this kind, it is certainly true that the more one looks, the more one sees.
