This example is unusual among antique Lavar Kermans in having a brilliant ivory-white ground or field color. This provides a light balance and effective contrast for the allover design of large, stylized rosettes and palmettes in the reds, violets, and soft blues traditional for Kerman rugs. The overall effect of the light ground is rather delicate and lace-like. The ivory ground border set between two others with reds and blues echoes the effect of the field design and provides a clear frame for the entire composition.
