Lavars represent the very finest quality of Kerman carpets, which are generally among the most elegant antique carpets made in a classic Persian style. Here an elaborate, multi-layered medallion replete with lush arabesque detail occupies much of the field. Arabesque corner-pieces anchor and balance the medallions, while an abundance of flowering vines writhe across the intervening ground. A larger figure-8 vinescroll makes up the main border, flanked by multiple minor vinescroll borders that collectively provide a suitable frame for the complex field design. The palette is cool with taupe grays and a lovely aubergine-magenta cast.
