"My fascination with chrysanthemums began when I learned of their long, majestic history in Asian art and culture. I first introduced this flowering herb believed to have the “power of life” in my Tokyo series of vellum works on paper done in the memory of a young Japanese filmmaker. I chose to focus on the rhythm and repetition of the flower petals through line and color to evoke a quite contemplative arrangement of forms."
