Tiny stylized flower heads arranged in staggered horizontal rows repeat against a wine red field on this exciting little antique Dagestan. The color of the flowers alternated irregularly from row to row, and at points even within the rows themselves, creating interesting rhythmic variations across the design. In contrast to the fine patterning of the field, the borders are more macro. And inner border of serial stars frames the field, enclosed yet again by and outer border of hooked rectangular cartouches. Barber pole guard borders intervene between the main ones, adding an extra graphic accent comparable to the field, thus unifying the overall design texture.
